Nostrum shrubs provide the base for better cocktails and sodas. A shrub is a tart syrup that serves as a mixer for cocktails and sodas; made with local fruits and herbs, organic apple cider vinegar, and organic cane sugar.

The word "shrub" is derived from an Arabic word for "drink." Shrubs have been enjoyed in the Middle East for thousands of years, and in the New World since the colonial era. They fell out of style thanks to refrigeration and other innovations, but have made a comeback within the modern craft beverage movement.

Organic grapefruits provide a bright acidity that pairs perfectly with the smoky, fruity heat of dried morita chipotles. Piloncillo, a traditional Mexican brown sugar, grounds the shrub with a rich and earthy flavor.

The perfect match for bold spirits like mezcal, gin, bourbon, and aged rum.

Nostrum recommends the following ratios:
~cocktails: 1/2 ounce to 3/4 ounce Nostrum shrub
~sodas: 1 ounce Nostrum shrub per 6 ounces soda water


2 oz Mezcal or Tequila

1/2 oz Grapefruit, Piloncillo & Chipotle Shrub

1/2 oz Lime Juice

2 - 3 oz Ginger Beer

Shake first 3 ingredients in a cocktail shaker, then top with ginger beer.
