Clean Beauty 101 // Hydrate

We used to think oils were bad for the face, but the tide has turned and we've seen the light. Not only are facial oils wonderful for hydrating your skin, they can address every concern from acne prone to mature skin.

// The 3 Step Skincare Routine: A Review //

At Thread + Seed, we advocate for a curated, minimalist lifestyle, and that doesn't stop with skincare. We think 3 steps is a great place to start your Clean Beauty routine. All you need to do is Cleanse, Tone, Hydrate then you're done! Optional fourth step when you are ready is to Treat with a mask or targeted treatment.

1. Cleanse // It's important to find the right cleanser for you, one that is tailored for your skin type and concerns. Read more about Cleansing and how to choose the right one by Clicking Here.

2. Tone // Confused about whether you need to tone, or which one is right for you? Get a better understanding of what toners do by Clicking Here.

3. Hydrate // You've come to the right place. I'm sure most of you know that it is important to moisturize after Cleansing and Toning, so let's break down the 2 ways to do it and some of our favorite picks below.

// Facial Oils versus Facial Lotions //

To understand why oils are in fact great for the skin, you must first understand what lotions are. In most cases, a lotion is just oil + water + emulsifiers. So if you use a facial lotion already, you were putting oil on your skin and you didn't even know it! A facial oil is just a more concentrated version of what's in your lotion, so you get more bang for your buck. Plus, most traditional lotions contain chemical emulsifiers that we just don't think need to be on your skin. That being said, we do carry just a few lotions in the shop that we approve of. If you simply prefer the lightweight moisture of a lotion, no worries, shop Facial Lotions Here.

// Benefits of Facial Oils //

The number one reason you need a facial oil in your skincare routine is because of their lipophilic properties. This means these specifically chosen oils are able to deeply penetrate deep into the skin, trapping water and other moisturizing elements. Because they are able to get into the areas of the skin where other, less concentrated moisturizers might not, they will make your skin smoother overall - nature's primer! Oils also help to minimize the appearance of pores. The highest quality botanical oils help to pull grime and large molecule fats from pores, making them appear smaller and less noticeable. The best, highest quality botanical oils each have properties that will aide whatever your skin's concerns are, making them a superior hydrator. Lastly, facial oils improve your skin's barrier function. They fortify the skin's natural ability to keep the bad stuff out - helping your skin strengthen it's armor.
